A GROUP of Exmouth residents given vital support by The Quiet Mind Centre have organised a festival fundraiser to help find the charity a new home.

The Festival of The Quiet Mind will be held on August 28 in Manor Gardens with the proceeds to help find the health centre a new home.

For 25 years the Hartley Road-based charity has been a vital lifeline for residents on low incomes who suffer from stress-related, physical and emotional illnesses.

But the landlord has signalled his intention to convert the building into offices leaving the charity with just a handful of rooms, slashing the 5,000 annual treatments they perform by up to two-thirds.

The charity is now in a race against time to find suitable premises - and now a former magistrate, Sue Savage, a graphic designer, Tony Green and Zena Moys, who have all been helped by the charity are determined to raise the funds needed.

Together they have created Friends of the Quiet Mind, a charitable organisation made from former and current patients.

Friends' treasurer Sue Savage from Louisa Terrace said: "We really need people to come out and support us- not only on the day but in the lead up.

"We are asking for businesses and individuals to donate raffle prizes, set up stalls and for entertainers to helpout, things like that.

"The Quiet Mind is unique and has helped thousands of people and its time for us to show our gratitude."

The festival will run from 10am to 6pm and Tesco and Somerfield, the music shop on Albion Hill and Studio 69 of Credition are among those having offered their support.

On offer will be refreshments, stalls, a bouncy castle and live music and so far folk musician Billy Brant and beat boxer Gracious B are booked to perform with a compilation CD called Friends of the Quiet Mind released in the next few weeks.

Even schools are getting in on the act with the Beacon School raising money at a mufti day

Tony Green said: "The event will be for people aged from 0 to90, and we could raise 6,000 and hopefully be the first of more fundraisers to come.

"But we need all the support we can get and we would welcome any support from Exmouth people and business to raise this money."
