A coffee morning held at Topsham’s Matthews Hall raised nearly £600 for a charity that aims to help donkeys and horses.

The Brooke animal welfare Topsham supporters’ group event was attended by around 60 people.

Refreshments, Christmas cards, cakes, books, plants and bric-a-brac, as well as a bring-and-buy sale and a prize draw, were all available during the morning.

Wendy Brookes, event organiser, praised the charity for its work.

She said: “The Brooke employs local people wherever they operate. They are not just an animal welfare organisation, they do support the community.

“The event went well. We raised about £570. The Brooke is a wonderful charity and we were well supported.

“Over the morning, 50 to 60 people turned up.

“I would like to thank our supporters, and say that all of the money raised goes to the charity, which operates in some of the world’s poorest areas.”
