A FORMER Rolle College student who collapsed and died during a rugby training session at the age of 21 is being remembered by friends who are holding a long-distance sponsored walk in his memory.

Seventeen former colleagues of trainee teacher Oliver Marsden this week trekked to Exmouth from Plymouth in aid of a heart charity for the young.

The students hope to raise hundreds of pounds for Cardiac Risk in the Young.

The undergraduates, studying to be teachers specialising in physical education, on Friday braved the treacherous weather conditions to walk as far as possible in daylight across Dartmoor, before being picked up and returned to Plymouth.

On Saturday the group were taken to Exeter to walk the dozen miles to Exmouth.

Walk organiser Lee Langford said Oliver was in his final year of training to become a primary school teacher.

"He was the nicest guy I ever met. He was a real genuine bloke and one of the few people who knew everyone in the year.

"It was such a shock to everyone when he died because he was so fit."

Anyone who wants to sponsor the students can contact Lee on 07896 977441.
