Colaton Raleigh is going bananas - a Japanese banana plant has been in flower for three weeks in the village.Self-confessed 'plant-aholic' Judy McKay, of Yonder Hill, is the proud owner of the banana plant - which is on display to the public. Judy, who regularly opens three-quarter acre Yonder Hill as part of the National Gardens Scheme, said she was unlikely to eat any bananas which grew from the plant."This particular one doesn't have big juicy edible fruits, which is a shame," said Judy, who has been tending the garden since 1992. "I think the weather has been good, so it's flowered earlier than it should do. If it's going to flower, it should do it in July."l Yonder Hill will play host to a community village hall jazz evening at 7pm, on Thursday, July 10. Picnics are welcome. Tickets are £5, available from Sue on (01395) 568072 or Lorraine on (01395) 567551.l Yonder Hill is open to the public every Sunday, or at other times by appointment, by contacting Judy on 07864 055532.
