THE long-established lecture given by Topsham Museum and Topsham Society will be held under its new name and with a fitting tribute to its name-sake.The Annual Topsham Lecture was renamed the Oboussier Lecture in memory of Caroline Oboussier and in recognition of her contributions to the town.Mrs Oboussier was one of the founders of the Topsham Museum and died in December 2007 - her funeral was attended by hundreds of residents. She specialised in conservation and published several books on Topsham, with her research feeding the museum's extensive archive.John Thorp, a close friend of Mrs Oboussier, will be starting the lecture with a tribute to his close friend. He will be talking about his work as a field worker for the Listed Building Re-Survey of Devon and Cornwall and about his book Devon Thatch and Thatching. The inaugural lecture will be held at Matthews Hall, on Thursday, October 23, at 7.30pm.For more information contact Geoff Wilkinson on (01392) 879107.
