THE determination of Exmouth's homegrown talent and support of the Prince's Trust will culminate in a new event set to rock the town next month.A vibrant bill at the first Exe Fest will showcase bands, DJs, artists and dancers to provide a rare chance to celebrate contemporary, alternative music.Exmouth Rugby Club's Imperial Road ground will come alive with music for the afternoon, six DJs and six live acts from Devon providing a soundtrack from indie rock to reggae, hip hop and drum and bass, accompanying breakdancers and live art on a 96-foot graffiti wall. The new chance for Exmouth youngsters to shine has been organised by 22 year-old Alex Warren, of North Street, who helped campaign for decent facilities at Exmouth's skatepark, resulting in £35,000 worth of District Council investment in the Phear Park facility. With the help of co-organiser Sarah Finch Prince's Trust funding has been secured to back the gig, originally earmarked as an alternative strand to the Exmouth Festival.Organisers hope to prove their plans offer a positive boost to town youngsters, and aim to secure Town Council backing for future events."The idea of the festival is to give the town some alternative entertainment to what's already on offer, mainly aimed at the younger people in the community," said Alex."Lots of people feel the town lacks entertainment like this. "This will be like nothing the town has seen. I'm hoping that by doing this well the council will see it as a good thing and help support me in 2009. It is proving to be very tough doing it without their help."Exe Fest runs from noon to 9pm on Sunday, August 10, adults £5, under 16s £3, under 10s free.
