Firefighters from Exmouth were called to a builders’ yard on Thursday evening after scores calls were made to the fire brigade.

When the crews arrived at the Withycombe Village Road builders’ merchant shortly before 5.30pm they tackled a blaze which had broken out among building materials.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “The fire involved a large quantity of builders materials and was extinguished using two hose reels.

“One appliance from Exmouth was initially sent , but due to numerous calls being received, a further appliance also from Exmouth was mobilised.

“But soon after arrival, the initial crews confirmed they had sufficient equipment to deal with the fire and the second appliance was returned to home station.”
