BUDLEIGH Salterton's fire crew was unable to respond to a shout when the fire engine was dogged by a faulty starter motor. The firefighters were forced to watch Exmouth colleagues take over the 999 call to Lloyds Bank, in Fore Street, when a fire broke out in a microwave, last Friday afternoon.A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said precious minutes had not been lost by the fault because the Exmouth crews had already been sent to respond to the call.He said the fire engine's faulty starter motor was immediately replaced with a new part. The spokesman said: "We jumped in the engine, flicked the switch and it wouldn't start."There were two pumps going from Exmouth anyway, so it didn't make any difference to the incident." The fire crews were called to Lloyds Bank shortly before 1.30pm.The fire was out on the crews' arrival so the firefighters inspected the premises and made the area safe before leaving.
