Fire fighters have been battling 40 tonnes of blazing hay overnight at Woodbury Salterton.
They were called out yesterday (Saturday) afternoon to the road between Greendale Barton and Hogsbrook Farm.
The material was on fire beside a barn containing cattle, although the fire service said there was no immediate risk to the barn.
The crew from Exmouth was asked to attend, as was a water carrier from Danes Castle, Exeter.
The farmer assisted fire crews with a telehandler to remove the burning hay to an area and allow it to burn.
Fire fighters revisited later in the day and last night had to use compressed air foam to extinguish more flames.
This morning (Sunday) the fire is still smouldering but has been left in the care of the farmer, although a fire crew will call in again.
