Two fire crews were dispatched to Phear Park overnight.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were called to the Exmouth park at 12.16am this morning (Sunday) amid reports of a large tree on fire.

A service spokesman said: “Fire control received a report that a tree was on fire in Phear Park, and one fire engine from Exmouth was sent to investigate.

“Upon arrival the fire crew requested a second fire engine to assist them.

“The second fire engine from Exmouth was sent to assist with its 4x4 capability and compressed air foam capability.

“The incident involved a large tree on fire and the crews used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire along with hand axes to cut away.

“The fire crews then used compressed air foam on the tree and surrounding area to stop any fire spread and extinguish the fire.”
