Devon and Somerset Fire & Rescue band to play Last Post at Ypres

WHILE people in Exmouth mark Armistice Day with two minutes silence today, Devon and Somerset Fire & Rescue Service’s ceremonial band have travelled to Ypres in Belgium.

They are the only fire and rescue service ceremonial unit in the world to be allowed to play the Last Post and Reveille.

Joining the ceremonial unit this year will be Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service’s Chief Fire Officer Lee Howell, chairman of the Fire and Rescue Authority, Mark Healey and five other fire and rescue ceremonial units.

The two day Armistice commemorations at Ypres include a service of remembrance, an official parade with standards and bands, and a special Last Post ceremony at The Menin Gate Memorial.

The commemorations have been held every year since 1928.
