There’s good news for Exmouth’s Famous Old Barrel pub, which has been closed since last October.
This week, Star Pubs and Bars – the pub business of Heineken UK, which owns the Barrel – confirmed that the pub is likely to re-open in the next few weeks.
And it’s hoping to find a new ‘permanent operator’ who will continue with the pub’s entertainment schedule.
“The Famous Old Barrel is expected to reopen in early February under temporary management while a new, permanent operator is sought to take over the ongoing running of this popular pub,” said a Star Pubs and Bars spokesperson.
On its website, Star Pubs and Bars, says it’s looking for ‘friendly, focused operators’ to run the pub.
It describes the Barrel as a ‘popular’ community pub ‘known for live music and entertainment’ that ‘thrives on live bands, sports teams and the offering of great cask ales and beer’.
“This site would ideally suit a community operator who can develop the already well-established drinks trade and schedule of entertainment,” says the website. “The ideal candidate would have the ability to engage with the local community and continue to deliver high standards.”

The Barrel joins two other Exmouth pubs on Star Bars’ website, which are currently looking for new permanent managers.
They are The Beacon Vaults on The Beacon, and The Phoenix on Exeter Road.
