A COUPLE from Middlesex will this week 'test drive' an Exmouth home when they are filmed for BBC TV's To Buy, or Not To Buy programme.Karen Hobbs, 48, and husband Jason, 41, who live near Heathrow Airport, are preparing to move to Devon to give their three-year-old son, Mark, a life by the sea.Karen, an accountant, and Jason, who works in IT support, said finding the time to search for their dream home while working was difficult so they signed up for the BBC programme's help. The pair hope to be settled in Exmouth before son Mark starts school in September. For the past three years, the busy pair have every month made the three-and-a-half-hour journey from their home to Exmouth to holiday in their Sandy Bay caravan. But now the couple would like to make their holiday town their permanent address. Mum-of-three Karen said moving to Devon had been a big decision to make. "I will be leaving two grown-up children and my parents," she said. "It's a very big move for me, especially because I have lived in my house for 20 years."I just like the town, the estuary, the people and the community. I have always wanted to live by the sea. I like everything about Exmouth."It's difficult looking for houses when you don't live in the area. We have made appointments before for 9am and had to leave home at 5.30am to get there." While Karen and Jason are in Exmouth they will be shown three homes - two will exactly match their wish-list while the third is a 'wildcard' thrown in by producers to see if the couple can be swayed by something different. The pair said they hoped to find a modern four-bedroom home within walking distance of the sea. They get to test drive their property, spending time living as a family, in their favourite home before announcing their decision to buy, or not to buy.Two days' filming will be condensed into 30 minutes of television, which will be shown later this year.Karen said: "We have got no real criteria. I will probably be working from home so I would need a ground-floor study - and four bedrooms because we will have lots of visitors."We would probably like something modern because we don't particularly want to do any work.
