FAMILY tree-tracing enthusiasts from Exmouth get the chance to root through their history courtesy of the Devon Record Office next month. Members of the Devon Family History Society will be on hand at the Record Office in Exeter on July 3 to offer advice

FAMILY tree-tracing enthusiasts from Exmouth get the chance to root through their history courtesy of the Devon Record Office next month.Members of the Devon Family History Society will be on hand at the Record Office in Exeter on July 3 to offer advice and help.They can talk through the basics of getting started for complete novices, and also help seasoned genealogists become unstuck.Exmouth amateur genealogist Ray Haughton said: "I have found these sessions very interesting and very useful - and they offer some good pointers if you don't know where to start." Executive Member for Culture, Councillor Sheila Hobden said: "This is the fifth event of this type that we have held and they have been well attended in the past. "Family tree tracing is a fascinating hobby but can be extremely slow and frustrating for those who don't know the short cuts. This is the sort of help that our staff can provide." Advice on how to use popular websites such as www.ancestrylibrary.com and accessing written records in the Record Office will be amongst the information given.The Family History Help Desk Day will be held on Thursday, July 3, between 10am and 3pm at the Devon Record Office, Great Moor House, Sowton, Exeter. l For further information contact the Devon Family History Society on www.devonfhs.org.uk
