Plans have been put forward for a families and community centre to be built at the Royal Marines Commando Training Centre, Lympstone.

The plan is for the centre to be built on the site of disused tennis courts to the east of the A376, opposite the commando training centre’s main entrance.

The planning application states that the purpose of the facility will be to serve the Royal Marines and other service families living in the south west, however the local community will also be invited to use the facilities.

It is said that following similar projects at Plymouth and Poole, it has been recognised that Royal Marine families in the Exmouth and Exeter area do not have easy access to a community centre providing support they need.

Woodbury Parish Council will be consulted about the planning application, before East Devon District Council makes the final decision regarding permission.
