PLANS to build a two-storey rear extension on a home at 24 Stoneborough Lane, Budleigh Salterton, have failed to win the support of the town's council.
The members said the extension would impact on the light and privacy, and affect the amenities, of a neighbouring home.
The application will go before the district council who has the final decision over the application.
Deputy mayor Councillor Courtney Richards said: "We have a great deal of sympathy with the neighbours in number 22. They are going to lose quite a lot of light and privacy."
Councillor Tom Wright said: "I have sympathy with the residents at number 22, but there's no right to a view. After mid-day it will not be affected by the light."
Councillor Alan Jones said: "They have trouble getting light in there now. If a big slab is out there it will make the property darker than it is now.
