A GROUP of Exmouth women are training hard, ahead of a gruelling 400-mile charity bike ride.

Kate Woodford, Alison Hill and Tracy Neath-Rodgers, who are calling themselves ‘Pete’s Dragons’, will ride from Land’s End to Twickenham in memory of Peter Wicks who died in January this year.

The trio will embark on the epic journey, on September 1, to raise money for the Dartmoor and Cornwall Search and Rescue teams as well as Help for Heroes.

A spokesperson for the team said they will raise money for the rescue teams because of their committed aid and support to Peter’s family during what was a very difficult time.

“Pete’s Dragons have been training hard for the last five months in order to be ready for the daunting bike ride that awaits them,” the spokesperson said.

“They did this initially unaided, planning their own routes and schedules.

“None of the Dragons were cyclists before undertaking the task but have committed admirably with very early starts, long hours in the saddle and the wrath of the elements to contend with.”

As well as the bike ride, Pete’s Dragons have been preparing other fund-raising events including car boot sales, a fun day with a cyclethon, charity back wax and raffle.

A similar event will be held at the Exmouth Arms this Saturday, August 21.

Members of the public will help the Dragons keep the pedals of two spinning bikes turning for 10 hours together with three guys taking part in a back wax.

It’s an all-day event starting at midday.
