An Exmouth cook will be showing off her culinary skills on a BBC cooking show next week.

Sue Stoneman, 49, will appear alongside celebrity chef James Martin on The Box, which airs on BBC 1 at 4pm on Tuesday, June 2.

In the show, chefs from across the country compete against each other, using the day’s ingredients boxes.

Contestants are asked to bring just an apron with them and don’t know what is inside their box.

She said: “It was all very exciting – we didn’t know who the chef was going to be until we got there.

“Now it’s all coming out, I am feeling quite nervous as I haven’t seen the tape.

“I had a brilliant time and I hope it leads to new opportunities.”

Sue, who was a finalist in Devon Life’s home cook of the year competition earlier this year, had to go through a rigorous selection process for the television show.

After her initial application, she had interviews over the telephone and in person, before being asked to go to the BBC studio in London.

Since the show was filmed, she has had to keep tight-lipped about the outcome, even keeping it from her husband, Andrew, the general manager at Devoncourt Resort.

Sue has recently been crowned West Country baking champion at the Exeter Food Festival and twice applied to be on The Great British Bake-off.
