An Exmouth woman has spoken of her surprise after her furry friends won a regional photo contest.

Over the Christmas period, Journal readers were asked to submit photos of their pets in festive attire.

After a public vote, a photo taken by Jill Hawkins of her pet dogs Ruby and George was selected as the winner in the ‘Christmas Claws’ contest.

Jill’s Red Setter Collie-cross Ruby, who turns 10 this year, was wearing a Father Christmas jacket and hat. George, a nine-year-old terrier, was also wearing a festive outfit.

Jill told the Journal of her surprise at winning and said that Ruby in particular was a reluctant model.

She added: “I was really quite surprised because there were better photos there.

“They are both lovely dogs – Ruby is the best dog I’ve ever had, nothing ever phases her at all.

“We took three photos indoors which weren’t very good and by the time we got outside they were fed up.”
