A 28-metre-high wheel which operated on Exmouth seafront this summer, offering spectacular views, could return in 2018, East Devon District Council has said.

The wheel was operated by Somerset-based MI-Wheel on the district council-owned Beach Gardens, on the Esplanade, offering rides lasting eight minutes.

The council said via Twitter that more than 12,000 people rode the wheel during the six weeks it was in place, and that the operator wants to return next year.

Members of Exmouth Town Council’s planning committee previously suggested that, if the wheel was to return, other sites should be considered, as they said this year’s location had affected nearby residents.

The wheel initially operated this year under a 28-day temporary planning permission, with an extension to this later receiving approval from the council’s development management committee.
