A 20-year-old Exmouth tyre fitter was one of just six apprentices shortlisted for a prestigious national award. Exmouth's Rhys Bland - an apprentice at the town's Kwik Fit - received a certificate at the National Apprentice Technician of the Year Awards dinner, held in Milton Keynes.

Organised by the National Tyre Distributors Association (NTDA), ‘the tyre industry’s Oscars’ was open to apprentices working in around 2,000 UK tyre retailers.

Darren Hallinan, centre manager at Kwik Fit Exmouth, said: “This was a great achievement for Rhys and we are extremely proud of him, not only for being nominated for this award, but for how much he has progressed during his time with us.”

Rhys Bland added: “Being shortlisted for this award was a great honour. I’m glad to see my hard work at Kwik Fit has been recognised by the NTDA. The calibre of nominees was exceptionally high, so just to be shortlisted was amazing.”
