A community transport scheme will be launching a new 'ring and ride' service next month.

Exmouth and District Community Transport (EDCT) has recently reviewed it services to make it more flexible for passengers.

It has decided to return its Devon County Council (DCC)-leased vehicle and to cancel its school contract to make it more flexible.

The new ‘Ring and Ride’ scheme will allow customers to travel to town centres in the morning and the seaside in the afternoon.

There will also be monthly lunch trips, as well as excursions to Sidmouth, Newton Abbot and Exeter.

Jill Elson (pictured), chairman of EDCT management committee, said: “Our customers were saying that they like to socialise with others, they wish to visit local shopping centres as well as the supermarkets and town centres. Their personal carers are not always able to have them ready to travel by 10am and would like an opportunity to travel in the afternoon.”

Earlier this year, Budleigh and Exmouth town councils were successful in getting funding for a ‘hub’ bus to be used by EDCT.

The bus will allow the group to provide transport between Exmouth and Budleigh community hospitals.

EDCT also has another multi-purpose vehicle, which it uses for individual appointments, such as relative visits and weddings.
