The leader of an Exmouth scout pack has paid tribute to the generosity of a benefactor who paid for new camping equipment.

The 7th Exmouth Scouts have been looking to raise funds to allow them to go on a trip to an adventure park in Bromsgrove, near Birmingham.

Following an article in the Journal, Paul Fell, of Exmouth-based PTF Maintenance, who lives in the same road as scout leader Ian Edgecumbe, offered to buy eight new tents.

When Ian Edgecumbe went to Halfords to buy them, staff at the Liverton Business Park store donated two themselves and offered a discount on the rest.

Ian said: “Paul lives two doors up from me and I didn’t think to ask him.

“His son saw the story in the Journal and told his dad.

“It was a very nice surprise.”

The scouts still need around £500 for the trip and are looking to pay for an affordable cooker.

Anyone interested in helping the scouts raise funds can ring Ian on 07891 715841.
