The town council has nearly completed its move from the town hall in St Andrew’s Road to a new home in Rolle Street.
In preparation for East Devon District Council’s planned refurbishment of the town hall, the town council has moved into premises at 44 Rolle Street.
The refurbishment is due to take 38 weeks to complete and could begin in January.
Town clerk Lisa Bowman, who is pleased the move has gone so smoothly, understands there may be some confusion over where to access services.
She said: “The public aren’t always clear on the responsibilities of the three councils [town, district and county].
“When we were with the district council in the town hall, we could easily direct people to the correct service provider.
“It might be a little bit difficult to understand what functions have moved.”
The town council has taken out a five-year lease on the Rolle Street property, with a break clause inserted for when it gets the green light to return to the town hall.
Exmouth Town Council has responsibility for tourist information, Gorfin Hall, Exmouth Festival, festoon lighting along the seafront, the Christmas Cracker, christmas lights, and offers proof-of-life services for foreign pensions and acts as a consultee for planning applications made within the town.
East Devon District Council is responsible for street cleaning, housing needs, council tax, housing benefit, kerbside-waste, recycling and environmental services.
Drop-in appointments will be available at the town hall for housing needs, housing benefit and council tax support.
