At a meeting, town councillors agreed to give Exmouth Pride a £600 grant towards the costs of running their annual event.

An event being held to celebrate Exmouth’s LGBT community has been given a cash boost.

At a meeting this week, Exmouth Town Council voted to give the Exmouth Pride event a £600 grant.

The event, being held at Manor Gardens, on June 30, is a chance for the friends, families and supporters of Exmouth’s LGBT community to come together for one day.

Organisers applied for funding as a contribution towards the costs of running the festival.

Councillor Cherry Nicholas, who chairs the council’s finance committee, said: “This will be the fourth year that Exmouth Pride has been established and they have come to the council for help.

“As far as I can see, costs have gone up because of the licensing costs and various other things.”

A motion to give them the £250 the council had given them in the past failed and councillors voted in favour of granting them the £600 they asked for.
