STAFF at Exmouth swimming pool are celebrating the facilities 25th birthday with a day of activities next Monday.

Making a Splash’ takes place on September 6 between 10am and 2pm and will include music and dress from the 1980’s and guest of honour Mayor Cllr. Darryl Nicholas.

There will be pool fun with floats and WaterWalkerz – the amazing human hamster balls – in addition to the regular Monday Aquacise class and general lane swimming.

There will be birthday cake and refreshments for customers after the swim and Leisure East Devon will be giving away 25 free monthly swim memberships over the next week, with the winners being drawn on the day.

The pool was originally opened by the then Chairman of East Devon District Council, Cllr C.G.E. Cotterell, on Friday the September 6 1985.

A spokesman said: “The opening of the pool was a ‘smash hit’ that had taken some 30 years to come to fruition.

“Exmouth Swimming and Life Saving Society originally campaigned for an indoor pool, which was eventually provided.”
