A new walk will show off the best of Exmouth to a fresh audience buying the country's first virtual guide book. The Estuary View Walk - developed by the Exmouth Society - will put the town on the map as part of a south west coast path interactive DVD.The new walk makes the most of the seafront, alternate paths to Lympstone and the beauty of the estuary.Exmouth Society secretary Ian Cann said: "We wanted to do something for the town as we are firm believers in being positive about regeneration."The different flavours of the seafront, estuary and wildlife, Lympstone village with its nooks and crannies and Exmouth urban with a charm of its own make this the perfect spot."The multi-media guide, created by The Virtual Book Company, puts walkers in touch with the communities on the path, with links to local businesses and attractions through the internet.Sponsorship from Exmouth Cycle Hire, Devon Juice Cafe, Stuart Line Cruises and Edge Watersports have helped the project and provided links within the interactive guide to each business.Town manager Tony Collins said the ground-breaking virtual book was an opportunity not to be missed. "We are committed to expanding Exmouth's leisure, art and environment resources," said Mr Collins. "Launching a walk is a superb commitment to sustainable tourism. I am delighted so many local businesses have chosen to be part of the project."The 8.3 mile walk begins at the bus station, taking a figure of eight trail in three parts: via the seafront to Carlton Hill and along the Beacon; then from the bus station again to Lympstone; finally past National Trust property A La Ronde, through Withycombe and back to the estuary. The virtual book covers the entire SW coast path and has been nine years in the making. Virtual Book Company director Bill Peaker said: "We are delighted to include Exmouth in the guide and I'm sure the walk will prove tremendously popular."The guide is available online at www.virtualbookcompany.co.uk, priced £19.95, and in shops soon. £1 of each Exmouth sale will be donated to new RNLI boathouse.
