A HOAX call to the police from a man claiming to have been stabbed at Exmouth's railway station prompted officers and paramedics to respond.
The 999 call was made on Tuesday evening, officers said.
When the police and paramedics arrived at the scene they were unable to find any trace of the man.
And when Exmouth police tried the mobile telephone number used to make the original call, they found the phone had been switched off and the answer phone activated.
