Fundraising for charity proved a piece of cake for staff at Exmouth’s Specsavers when they raised awareness of sight loss.

The store, in Exeter Road, raised £350 for the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB), selling books and cake to the community.

The event helped raise awareness of the importance of eye examinations to prevent eye disease.

Ria Heskins, store director for Exmouth, said: “We hope everyone in Exmouth enjoyed our cake sale and in turn helped us to raise awareness of the RNIB.

“We know it is a cause that resonates with our business and lots of our customers.”

The event was organised to highlight an RNIB campaign urging people to make eye health a priority and encourage regular visits to the optician to prevent sight loss.

Ria said: “I expect many people in Exmouth know that they should have regular eye tests but our lives are so busy with work and family that it’s not surprising how making an appointment at your opticians can slip.”
