THE skyline above Exmouth was transformed into a sea of colourful kites last weekend.

Scores of people turned out in glorious sunny weather for the two day Rotary International Kite Festival held on the Imperial Recreation Ground on Saturday and Sunday, June 5 and 6.

Gerald Garraway, president of the Rotary Club of Exmouth, thought the event was the most successful yet.

He said: "There were a lot more people there and more events going on. People were very complimentary about what was taking place. We were absolutely delighted with how things went."

Andrew Beattie, who is famous for flying some of the world's biggest kites, attended.

The Rotary Club of Exmouth has raised more than 32,000 for local charities thanks to staging the festival in recent years.

Some of the beneficiaries included Shelterbox, Children's Hospice South West, St John Ambulance and Dream-a-way.
