A sinkhole caused by a water pipe fault beneath Exmouth beach is to be repaired ‘as a matter of urgency.’

East Devon District Council has confirmed that they are monitoring a sinkhole, which appeared near Orcombe point on Wednesday, April 28, on a daily basis while South West Water (SWW) repairs it.

An EDDC spokesman said: “Our StreetScene officers are continuing to monitor the sinkhole on a daily basis and will ensure that the cordon remains in place until SWW begins repairs on site.

“SWW have visited the site and have confirmed to us that the sink hole was caused by a fault in the SWW pipe that runs beneath the beach.

“They will put up temporary fencing panels around the area while the pipe is being repaired as a matter of urgency.”
