AN EXMOUTH scout group trying to raise money for a trip to Africa are to hold a fundraising car wash event.

The Exbud Explorer scouts will clean cars at the fire station in Liverton next Saturday, June 20, between 10am and 4pm.

They will spend two weeks in Namibia starting on July 24 next month and they need to raise a further £3000 to help subsidise the trip.

The scouts will carry out five days of voluntary work in Africa which will include building play ground equipment at a school for children.

Liam Slough, a member of the Exbud Explorer group, said: "The children who go to the school live so far away that they have to stay there in order to have an education."

Liam said the scouts had been fundraising for more than 16 months with a target goal of raising £30,000.

"There are 17 explorers and five leaders going, totalling 22 people - with us having to pay £12,100 ourselves which, in the current global (economic) situation is a struggle for some.
