The Archdeacon of Exeter, the Venerable Christopher Futcher, presented the Beacon Church of England voluntary-aided Primary School with its outstanding Church School Inspection (SIAMS) certificate.

The report praised headteacher, Susan Lockwood, for her enthusiasm and dedication in ‘establishing an ethos with high expectations, where children feel successful’.

The school was rated as outstanding in its ‘distinctiveness and effectiveness as a Church of England school’.

The school was also rated as outstanding at meeting the needs of all learners, the effectiveness of the religious education and the effectiveness of the leadership and management.

It was rated good for its impact of collective worship on the school community.

Mrs Lockwood said: “We are pleased the report recognises that our school is outstanding at meeting the needs of all learners, and that the majority of teaching in religious education, as it is in other subjects, is of a very high standard.

“We have a strong staff and governor team that really cares about helping each individual achieve their best.”
