An Exmouth sailor is serving on board Type 42 HMS Liverpool, as part of a series of multinational exercises in the North and West Atlantic.
Former Exmouth Community College student Able Rate Jamie Berry – known onboard as Chuck – joined the Royal Navy exactly a year ago. He recently turned 18 while alongside the Canadian port of Halifax and was allowed his first legal tot of rum on board while the ship spliced the mainbrace.
Chuck, whose job onboard the 5200-tonne anti-submarine destroyer involves working in the operations room on board, compiling the radar picture, said he had travelled ‘extensively’ during his short time in the Senior Service – visiting the Azores, Canada and the United States.
He and the task group also took part in the International Fleet Review which took place in Halifax to celebrate the Centennial of the Canadian Navy.
