An Exmouth organ donation campaigner is celebrating a great response from the public during National Transplant Week.

Steve Gazzard held nine events during the week to sign up new organ donors in Exmouth and the surrounding area, signing up 94 – a big increase on the 47 from the same week in 2016.

Steve, who campaigns after the death of his daughter Sarah Wright while awaiting a double lung transplant in 2012, has now signed up a total of 4930 donors.

He said: “I am completely blown away by the massive groundswell of support, and it is a huge tribute to Sarah, but our campaigns continue and our ultimate challenge is to see an ‘opt-out’ system introduced in England.

“I would like to thank all those who have made that life-changing decision and signed up to be donors but more are urgently required.”

Steve’s next sign-up events will be on September 22 and 23, between 11am and 5pm in the Magnolia Centre.
