The River Exe Café, which moors in the estuary near Exmouth, won the best dining experience/restaurant at the Devon Life Food and Drink Awards.

A spokesman for the café said: “Everyone at the River Exe Cafe is overwhelmed to be presented with the accolade.

“We send out our heartfelt thanks to the team, all of whom worked hard to achieve this, and to the support of customers, suppliers and those that came and enjoyed our dining experience in 2016.”

Christan Sculpher, of Exmouth-based Eat the Smoke, was also delighted after being recognised for best food product of the year.

He said: “I am massively pleased. It just feels like it is the culmination of a really good year. It’s really humbling.”

Bumble and Bee, in Manor Gardens, was also ‘highly commended’ in the best tearoom of the year category.

It was also a double celebration for Darts Farm, after walking away with the best butcher of the year and the 2016 Devon food hero. It was also highly commended in the food shop category.
