The Mayor of Exmouth is supporting scientific research aimed at finding a cure for brain tumours.

Councillor Brian Cole has nominated Brain Tumour Research as his charity of the year for 2017.

Cllr Cole, who has just begun his second term as mayor, will be raising money for the national charity during the next 12 months.

Announcing the partnership, Cllr Cole said: “I am very pleased to be supporting this great cause.

“It is shocking to learn that brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer yet just 1 per cent of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this disease.

“I know a little of the impact of neurological conditions having suffered a traumatic head injury in a climbing accident as a teenager.

“Fortunately I made a full recovery and am aware that this is not always the case for those affected by brain tumours.”
