A new refreshment kiosk for Orcombe Point is set to be open in time for the Easter holidays after the lease was officially signed.

Exmouth’s award-winning tea room proprietors Debra and Tony Quine have been given the contract for providing the sought-after kiosk.

The couple, who currently run Bumble and Bee, based in Manor Gardens, look set to open the temporary structure in time for Easter.

They will be combining their work running the popular town centre tea room with managing the kiosk, positioned at the east end of Exmouth beach.

Debra and Toby said: “We are so excited to be taking on this new venture and look forward to providing a quality range of food and drinks from the kiosk.”

Earlier this week, the couple took to social media with pictures of the temporary kiosk being installed, with well-wishes and good luck messages coming in from across the community.

The installation comes after ‘considerable’ demand for a refreshments kiosk at that end of the seafront.

Last year, East Devon District Council (EDDC) successfully applied for planning permission and undertook a marketing exercise ahead of tender discussions with Bumble and Bee and other potential service providers.

A spokesman for the authority said it was ‘delighted’ that the new lease has been signed and is looking forward to helping Debra and Tony expand their business.

Councillor Mark Williamson, East Devon’s ward member for Exmouth Littleham and lead councillor for neighbourhood planning, said: “There has been demand for refreshments in this area of the seafront for some time, so the new kiosk will be a much-needed asset for this part of Exmouth.

“Having played a part in the process, I am excited to see matters concluded and I wish the new tenants every success.”

Cllr John Humphreys, East Devon’s ward member for Littleham and lead councillor for Exmouth, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to respond to public demand and ensure that this much-desired amenity will soon be up and running at this hugely popular part of the seafront, where we have already seen other improvements in recent years.”
