Exmouth’s lifeboat crew is in line for state-of-the-art lifejackets as part of a national fundraising campaign to replace the essential equipment
Exmouth’s lifeboat crew is urging the public to back the charity’s 2012 SOS day to fund state-of-the art equipment.
The charity’s largest fundraising event of the year takes place on Friday 27 January and will help pay for new lifejackets for the town’s crew and the other 34 stations nationwide.
Each lifejacket costs around £350 and the charity is looking at spending almost £5,000 on the new equipment.
An RNLI spokesperson said: “‘The 2012 lifejacket campaign provides at real incentive to get involved.
“The two brand new types of lifejacket were designed through collaboration with Crewsaver and meet the charity’s current search and rescue requirements to keep our volunteers safe at sea.
“The manufacturer’s recommended price for the new all-weather lifejacket is £350 and for the inshore lifejacket is £330.
“As a result of securing a discount on these costs it will cost between £2,000 and £4,500 at the majority of stations, to equip our lifesavers with these new lifejackets in the South West.”
