Town council backs Exmouth RNLI ramp extension plan

An application to extend the launching ramp at Exmouth’s lifeboat station has received the backing of the town council.
At a recent meeting, members of the council’s planning committee discussed the application made on behalf of the RNLI to lengthen the ramp at its Queen’s Drive headquarters.
Councillors voted to support the application, saying the RNLI has ‘no choice’ but to extend the ramp if it is to continue launching the lifeboats.
Committee chairman councillor Lynne Elson said the sand has eroded from the beach faster than was anticipated when the station was built, adding: “The sand over the time has eroded so therefore they haven’t got enough ramp to launch a lifeboat.”
At the meeting it was revealed Littleham ward Councillor Mark Williamson backed the proposal. The Environment Agency has ‘no objection’ to the application.
