The sun shone, Exmouth looked fabulous and Lynette Talbot, the Britain in Bloom (South West) judge, who comes from Sidmouth, was met at Withycombe Rugby Club, which was the ‘welcome base’ for the day.

After a brief look an extensive display of work and a Power Point presentation, a three-hour tour followed. This also included presentations, in a kindly donated, air conditioned room, at the LED Leisure Centre, about Littleham School’s Gardening Club (by Graham Bell) and the newly completed Sensory Garden (by Gillie Newcombe of Exmouth Art Group).

Lynette also met councillors Jeff Trail, Christine Channon and Richard Scott, from Devon County Council, EDDC’s Tom Wood and Simon Kennedy, Chetna Jones, Deputy Town Clerk from Exmouth Town Council and the new Ground Maintenance Team and representatives from the The Lambeth Walk Local Community Project.

After lunch, back at the Rugby Club, The Town Crier, Roger Bourgein invited Jeff Trail, Chairman of Devon CC, Steve Gazzard, Mayor of Exmouth and then Lynette to say a few words. Lynette also made some presentations to a number of Exmouth in Bloom volunteers, recognizing their outstanding service over the years. Gerry Bassett, Chair of Exmouth in Bloom, thanked all those who had contributed to making the event such a success and presented Lynette with selection of hand -made items:- marmalade, a calendar, notecards, and a washable mask all in a bag made from recycled fabric. A choice of these items will be available on the next Exmouth in Bloom stall, on 11th September at 59 Halsdon Ave, Exmouth 10.00am to 4.00pm
