Pupils were taken out of the classroom to Exmouth beach to learn all about wildlife and the environment.

Beacon Primary School’s beach day was started two years ago by teacher Felicity Tetley, who takes the children each week.

She said the year three pupils enjoyed the experience of learning outside the classroom.

The teacher continued: “We haven’t got much outdoor space at the school and with the beach being so close, we thought it was handy.

“I take the kids each week.

“They love it – even though the children know they are learning – the pupils see it as different to being in school.”

She added: “We will be comparing our rock pool winter findings with what we find in the summer – it is just to teach the kids about the weather and the different types of animals that visit Exmouth.”
