An Exmouth pupil is among a group of youngsters tapping into success after their hydro-electric water invention made the finals of a regional competition.
Ben Tigg, from Exmouth, was among a group of budding hydro-engineers who recently impressed South West Water at the Exeter Big Bang.
The event is the region’s largest Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) competition.
On Thursday, June 14, the pupils presented their hydro-tap concept to South West Water’s, Bob Taylor.
Ben, 15, said: “It would be amazing to take our hydro-tap idea further and create a widespread concept; Bob Taylor gave us advice on how to do exactly that.”
The hydro-tap is a small turbine that fits into pipes under the sink and uses wastewater to generate electricity.
Mr Taylor said it was, ‘an honour’ to invest in the next generation and ‘great’ to see a local school invest in STEM education.
The students’ ambitions are now set on the national Big Bang event, in Birmingham.
