POLICE in Exmouth are warning shoppers to be alert after four purses were stolen from handbags at the weekend.

PC Jane Sleight, investigating, said: "We know of three offences at a supermarket in the town and another in the area of the Parade. It appears the bags were left open or unattended briefly and the offender has simply picked out the purse and contents.

"This is a timely reminder to be careful with handbags, keep PIN numbers separate from bank cards and remember that neither the police nor the bank will ever phone you and ask for your PIN number, it will be the thief trying to trick you"

If anyone saw anything that could assist PC Sleight with this matter they can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 quoting police reference KE/08/2210.
