Don’t leave valuables on display in your parked car - that is the message from Exmouth police who are warning drivers in a bid to clamp down on crime.

? Exmouth police are warning people not to leave valuables in cars parked in isolated beauty spots following a spate of thefts.

Officers plan to step up patrols on the commons and give crime prevention advice to visitors in a bid to drive down crime.

Police community support officer Sarah Trayhurn said: “We are urging people to be vigilant and not to leave valuables in parked cars on the common and other isolated beauty spots after an increase in thefts across the force area.

As part of ongoing operations to curb rural crime, officers will be carrying out visible patrols in vulnerable areas.

With the warmer weather and longer days, tourists flock to the area, hoping to enjoy the sunshine and beautiful landscapes.

“Simple precautionary measures like not leaving anything on display when leaving your car can save days and weeks of misery. Take mobile phones with you when leaving your car for a walk. These can also act as a personal safety measure.”
