Witnesses are being sought after a wallet was on Sunday stolen from an unattended bag left on Exmouth beach.

The police said the property was stolen while the owner played rugby.

Police community support officer Karen Capey said: “The town neighbourhood beat team would like to remind members of the public not to carry large sums of money if it can be helped and not to leave wallets, purses and bags unattended.”

A Vespa scooter parked in Church Road had offensive words scratched onto its top box, Exmouth police have revealed.

Officers said the criminal damage was carried out sometime between 9.40am and 2.50pm on Monday October 4.

Police at Exmouth are keen to trace a handbag belonging to a pensioner which went missing after it was accidentally left in a town centre shop.

Officers said the handbag, containing a Nokia mobile phone was last seen in Home Direct, in the Magnolia Centre.

Police community support officer Karen Capey said: “The bag was accidently left on the counter in Home Direct and when the owner realised her mistake, returned but the bag was missing.

“The bag did not contain her purse but did contain other various items.

“The elderly lady would very much like the bag returned as it has sentimental value.”
