EXMOUTH police say prevention is better than cure when it comes to cracking down on crime.

The town's neighbourhood beat team is urging people to keep valuables out of sight and make sure homes and cars are secure.

Officers said they were happy to offer free crime prevention advice.

PC Mat Helm said: "Overall Exmouth is a very safe place to live. It is a significantly sized town and it goes without saying that there will always be some issues.

"People often ask us if it's safe to go out and that they feel scared. "To that I would say this - most violent crime we deal with is domestic or alcohol related and the victim is normally associated with the offender.

"As a stranger, you are unlikely to be the victim. Please enjoy Exmouth and make the most of it. It's a beautiful place and we are very lucky to live here.
