EXMOUTH police are appealing for help tracing the heartless thieves who stole a Poppy Appeal collection box from a shop in the town.
The charity box was stolen from Picks, Strings and Things music shop, in Exeter Road, on Monday November 10, sometime between 3pm and 3.15pm.
The police are keen to speak to a man who gave the shop owner names of the suspects, because he is a possible witness.
Officers said a man and woman called into the shop and the box was taken by the woman while the man distracted the shop owner. The collection tin was found abandoned in a nearby wheelie bin, and the woman fled, officers said.
A Devon and Cornwall police spokesman said: "Although the money was recovered, this is a particularly unpleasant crime at this time of remembrance and sacrifice by military personnel."
Anyone with information about the theft is asked to contact the police, quoting reference KE/09/3330.
