A BRIXINGTON couple got the best present they could have wished for for Christmas - a healthy baby girl.

The proud parents Helen Martin, 27, and Melvin Crockett, 29, of Keats Close, were over the moon when their baby girl Maisy Ellie was born, ten days early, on Christmas Day.

The couple were visiting Helen's parents in Seaton and were planning to spend the holidays together when she began having contractions on Christmas Eve.

By the early hours the couple had to travel back to Exmouth to pick up the hospital bag and head off to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital maternity ward where Maisy was born at 9.05pm weighing 7lb.

Helen, who was later transferred to Honiton Hospital to be closer to her parents, said: "She is absolutely the best present we have ever had.

"We were very organised so it wasn't too difficult to get to the hospital.

"I was still determined to celebrate Christmas Day though; I even tried opening my presents while having contractions.

"We are going to make it a very special birthday for Maisy every year as she is our little Christmas miracle.
