A man was airlifted by coastguards after he fell from cliffs at Orcmobe Point

A man who fell from cliffs at Orcombe Point was airlifted to Exeter on Sunday evening.

Exmouth RNLI inshore lifeboat crew was launched to the scene after being tasked by Brixham coastguards.

The alarm was raised by the man’s friend, who he been walking with.

The casualty was treated at the foot of the cliffs by paramedics before being taken by coastguard helicopter to Exeter and transferred to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital by ambulance.

An RNLI spokeswoman said: “The RNLI inshore lifeboat George Bearman launched at 5.59pm and the crew searched the area using a

flashlight.

“The tide was low and they located the man at the foot of cliffs, on the west side of Rodney Bay at 6.03pm.

“One volunteer lifeboat crew member went on shore and was first on the scene.

“Local coastguards and paramedics arrived shortly after.

“Paramedics attended to the man until Portland coastguard helicopter rescue 106 arrived some minutes later and transferred the casualty to the RD&E at Exeter hospital.”
